#78 Web TV: Your Golf Approach Shots

Today’s tip we are going to look at you golf approach shots!

We are going to again see what is going on with your golf approach shots when you are out on the golf course. And yes again you have one more exercise to do to track your results.

What you want to do here is to track your golf approach shots, you want to see if you are actually hitting the green or missing the green. It will give you a valuable insight to what is going on with your game.

If you want to improve, as most golfers do, you actually need to know what is going on! No point being out there playing golf getting frustrated if you do not what is actually going on with your golf game. It takes the enjoyment out of it and all you do is get frustrated.

So if you want to improve I will suggest that you get out a piece of paper and do this next exercise. One of my clients showed me her results the other day, she had a spreadsheet all set up so we could see it all. It was very interesting for her to then see what was going on with her game, and what she needs to work on.

This is what I want you to do;

  • You will need an A4 sheet of paper.
  • On that A4 sheet of paper you will need 4 columns.
  • 1st Column is numbers 1 to 18 to represent 18 holes.
  • 2nd Column is Distance of Approach Shot
  • 3rd Column is Hit Green – tick for hit green
  • 4th Column is Miss Green – cross for miss green

When you play your next game, on each hole you want to record the distance of your approach shot.  After you have then finished your hole I want you to record all other information from your sheet.

Just record all the information when you are recording your golf score at the next hole when you are waiting to tee off. Do it as you go, don’t wait until you have finished your round, as you won’t remember.

Once you have finished your round, take a look at the distances from the green, how many approach shots hit the green and stayed there and how many approach shots then missed?

If you have missed a lot of greens then you have some work to do…if you have hit every green then your accuracy is spot on.

It will be interesting what you have come up with…

I am looking forward to you sharing with me below how you saw your golf game this week.

Here is to you and your awesome golf approach shots.

    Hi there Tiff,

Just a short note thanks for the tips they are good. Chipping is still my problems just a lack of confidence but I’m reading the two books you suggested and enjoying the read.

Pennant has been going well though as i won 6 & 4 two weeks ago and on Sunday i won 4 & 2 despite having some bad chips. I just freeze and my head lifts as I try to hit the ball thus I jab and skinny the ball across the green. It is definitely increasing my scoring totals but at the same time I have played some good shots as well.

I just need to practice more and stay committed to the shot.

All the best and thanks for your support.

      Hi Peter

Thanks for your comments about the tips always want to make sure they are easy to understand and simple to do.

Yes sounds like there is a lack of trust in your chipping action, may be more mental than anything. And yes you have to stay committed and trust your shot and trust you. If you were in my area I could take a look at it for you.

Sounds like though your performance is improving in pennants and I am glad you are enjoying the books I recommended.

      Keep in touch.

      Tiff 🙂
