#63 Web TV: How to Play Better Golf – Your Golf Goals

Here we are towards the end of the year, thinking about how to play better golf for next year. In order to play better golf and not just dream about it…we need to set golf goals.

So this is a perfect time…setting goals for success yes golf success!

You don’t have to be a pro golfer to set goals to play golf better. But I have to say that the only way you can take your golf to the next level is by setting goals and taking action to achieve them.

I am sure that you are aware that the only way you can improve is to do something about it! I know many golfers who are not happy with their golf game but will not do anything about it…and that’s ok for them. They just have to realize that they will have to continue down the path they are heading and to just accept the skill set they have got.

Now if you are one of those golfers who want more from their golf…then hold on…I am going to show you how to play better golf by simply setting a few goals for yourself so that you can achieve your golf aspirations.

The first thing I want you to make sure of is that you reflect on this last year… Get a huge piece of paper and write down or draw all the things that you have achieved with your golf and your life for this year. Make sure you celebrate 2013!!!!

#63 Web TV: How to Play Better Golf - Your Golf GoalsSo now that you have done that. Let’s move on!

Are you ready to Play Better Golf?

Then let me show you an easy way to set your golf goals that are achievable.

Now what I want you to do here is to have a look at these images below and start thinking about what it is that you want from your golf. They are there just to get you to start thinking about your golf for next year.

In order for you to play better golf start thinking about what I am about to ask you…but just think at this stage. I will tell you when to start making notes in your note book.

What do you want your handicap to be?

How are you going to do this?

When you are practicing you must remember that your practice must be full of purpose. Not just coming out and hitting a few balls and that will do… you do need some structure to your practice!

Ok, so now what I want you to do as you have just scrolled through those questions and it has got you to start thinking about what you want to do with your golf. I want you to know get out your golf goal book and start writing the answers to these action sheets.

1. How many days in the week can you practice?

 2. How much time in those allocated days can you practice?

3.  What you need to be working on in that day.

Just make sure that you are using drills that help you focus. The more your focus when you practice, the better you perform on the golf course and that is the key on how to play better golf!

#63 Web TV: How to Play Better Golf - Your Golf Goals

Don’t finish yet…now I want you to get 2 index cards and I want you to write the following down on those cards. Make sure you keep them beside your bed and you read them out in the morning before you get out of bed and at night before you go to sleep.

On your first card, I want you to write this:

“By (the date you have set for yourself) I am playing off handicap of (what your handicap goal is) or something better. Thank you!”

On your second card, I want you to write this:

  4. Caz January 2, 2014 at 5:38 pm #

    Hi Tiff
I would like a copy of the putting plan because that is one of my goals to improve on as well as chipping and pitching. I also want to reduce my handicap to 20 it is now 24. For the past 2 years I have had bad hip (still sore but not as bad) I lost 10 kilos during the year hoping this would help so I have decided to go back to basics like starting all over so I’ve been watching your videos. By the time I get back playing I would have had 8 weeks off so fingers crossed.
    Thanking you in advance.

    Yours in Golf

    Caz

  5. Pat January 3, 2014 at 4:57 am #

Hi Tiffany…. My goal is to become a better putter for sure. It’s the one area of my game that I can really improve… I have some physical restrictions and although I hit my drives about 180 yards, I’m not consistent – which is another area I need to work on… We are in the middle of a snow blizzard here on Cape Cod, USA… so no golf for a few months… but once the Christmas Tree comes down I can set up my putting practice bit on the floor and start practicing for the coming season…! LOL… once the weather warms (about mid-March) I can get to a driving range and practice… meantime working on my fitness level with some easy exercises…

    • Tiffany Mika January 4, 2014 at 6:19 am #

      Hi Pat,

Putting is where the shots can come down for sure. So everyone should be working on that part of their game…after all it is 43% of the game. Yes I have been watching the weather over in USA, wow a snow blizzard. For me that sounds exciting only because I have never experienced one. Where we live it doesn’t snow and especially in 2013 our winter, well we didn’t really have one. I am sure though the snow blizzards are very restrictive…as what I have seen on the TV!!! You can practice your putting indoors or even at the gym whilst you are working on your fitness level.

Do you want a copy of the putting plan to help you when you can get back into it in Mid March?

Yes, send along your putting plan. I just added a new post to my blog and plugged your site for those looking for some great putting tips. You can see it here: http://golfgurls.com/10-steps-improve-golf-putting/

I am not an instructor or expert, but I was able to do some research on putting drills and put together a short book which is selling on amazon. You should do the same with some of your ideas. I’d be happy to promote it!

        All the best.

  9. Kerrie January 6, 2014 at 11:03 am #

    Hi Tiffany,
I always enjoy your tips. I would like your putting plan please. My goal for 2014 is to be playing off 18 by December. My current handicap is 21 and came down from 27 in 2013. I practised chipping & pitching around the house yard twice a week which has really helped with my short game.

    • Tiffany Mika January 6, 2014 at 10:52 pm #

      Hi Kerrie

Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated! Good luck with your goals and I can’t wait to hear when you reach 18! I have sent through your putting plan.

  10. Karen Quinn January 8, 2014 at 6:51 pm #

    Hi Tiff
my goal for 2014 is to reduce my handicap to between 25 and 28 by working on my putting and my bunker shots. I also need to eliminate my slice (that is improving heaps but I still have the occasional lapse….)
I have reduced my handicap from 45 to 32 in 2013 so now I need to get under 30. I am soooo close that I can taste it so your putting plan will hopefully help.
Can you please send it to me ?

Thanks heaps Tiff – you are an inspiration ! πŸ™‚

    • Tiffany Mika January 11, 2014 at 6:34 pm #

      Hi Karen

Thanks for sharing your golfing goals with me! Be very proud of your achievements for 2013! It is fantastic!!!!

I love to hear about your golf! Just a point though, be really specific about the handicap number you set for yourself! Why not set it for 25 rather than between 28 & 25.

With your regards to your slice, because of the lapses…research says that it takes 21 to 28 days to form a habit…then it takes 90 days to ingrain the habit…so you are looking at about 4 months to form that new habit in your swing. But just stick with it!

I have sent through your putting plan.

Looking forward to hearing your progress for 2014!!!
