#141 Web TV: How To Hit The Green More Often

How To Hit The Green More Often

You know when you are hitting a shot and you’re aiming to hit it onto the green because that’s obviously where you want the ball to go because we’re about to pitch the ball in, but the ball doesn’t go where you planned, or you think it doesn’t, and you end up in a bunker, why is that?

It may not be your technique, you may have been hitting a good shot!

I’m going to show you how to make sure you’re hitting the ball into the green and not over to the bunker.

What actually happens is that a lot of people hit the ball into a bunker, they hit it either left or right.
There is a reason that happens…

It’s usually because of their alignment.

They actually don’t get the alignment right.

They actually end up hitting a good shot, actually hitting a straight shot.

The problem is that they don’t acknowledge it because they don’t know, they don’t know what they are really lined up to.

I’m going to show you how we can tackle that problem. I’ll give you an example of what not to do and then how we can fix it.

I’ll do something that most people do so that you can see it… (if you refer to video you will see that… I’ve hit the ball into the bunker because I was aiming it that way). That can happen so easily, quite simple.

Now, this is how can we fix that.

This is what we should be looking for.

  • Make sure the club face is facing in the direction you want the ball to go.

What people tend to do is that when they line up to ball is that they tend to get their feet set, usually hitting the ball to the left or right, looking over their shoulder and then they adjust the rest of their body.

  • Set club face, feet, and suddenly you are aiming in a different direction.

What actually happens is that your whole body is facing either the left or the right. What you are actually lining up is your feet line, your hips or whatever you want to call it but you are actually aiming in a different direction. When you put the club face down that’s what happens you are actually aiming the club face.

  • We need to make sure that when we are behind the ball we line the club face up to where we want it to go.
  • Pick a line and draw it all the way back to then line the club face up. Set the club face in and then get the feet set to match that line.
  • Now play the shot.

Watch the video above and watch my shot into the green, then answer these questions below.

  • What did you see there?
  • Where did you see I was lining up?
  • Did you notice that the club face was actually lining up to where I wanted the ball to go and then I adjusted my feet to match the club face?

When you’re playing your approach shots into the green, make sure you are lining club face first and then feet. Not the other way around.

A nice simple tip for you to go and work on but do take the time to acknowledge that you have hit a good shot, I just maybe didn’t get the line right.

Always make sure that if you haven’t hit the ball where you wanted it to go, throw your club down, walk away, have a look to see where you were aiming.

You may have hit a good shot, always acknowledge that you have hit a good shot first and then see what you did wrong that you can fix and then don’t do it again on the next hole.

Have an absolutely awesome day, take care, and remember; Tee it high and Let it fly.
